About Guardian Solar Security

Protecting Rural New Zealand — Powered by Experience, Practical Know‑How, and Technology

We’re Duane Norman and Andy Connors — a father-and-son team dedicated to safeguarding rural properties across our local community, Te Kuiti, Pio pio and Otorohanga. Together, we combine deep local knowledge, decades of policing experience, and the ability to deliver security solutions that work in the toughest rural conditions.

Andy Connors served for 33 years with the New Zealand Police, earning the respect and trust of communities in Pio Pio, Te Kuiti, and Otorohanga. Known for his integrity and practical problem-solving, Andy understands rural life and how to adapt installations to fit each property perfectly.

Duane Norman spent 9 years in the Queensland Police as a frontline officer and then specialising in Digital Forensics, before returning to New Zealand to serve 6 further years in the New Zealand Police Digital Forensic Unit. Duane is the technical specialist — designing and building advanced solar-powered security systems, wireless internet bridges, and tailored configurations for sites without power or connectivity. Before his policing career, Duane ran King Country Computers in Te Kuiti with his wife Liz, supporting the local community’s technology needs.

Our business began when theft hit Andy’s property. With sheds far from the house — and no power or internet at the gate — Duane researched, designed, and built a fully off-grid solar power station to run a CCTV camera. Andy planned and customised the installation, ensuring it fit the property’s layout. We added a wireless bridge for internet, allowing remote monitoring — and it worked flawlessly.

Today, we offer that same trusted combination of technical expertise and installation know‑how to farmers, lifestyle block owners, and rural businesses, providing reliable off‑grid security built just for their properties.
